Temporary visa: Business
General Information:
Please apply at the consulate or embassy responsible for your place of residence.
Applications outside the consular area of the embassy will be rejected.

Duration of stay for a Temporary Visa: 15, 30 or max. 90 days.
Documents to be submitted:
When applying in Berlin, please submit all documents not requested in the original as copies (in DIN A4 format).
The application documents should generally not be stapled and have no paper clips!
1. Valid passport in original and copy
- Copy of page with personal data is sufficient.
NOTE: Holders of a travel document for refugees or a travel document for foreigners issued by the German government must always apply for a visa.
2. Completed original application form with photo
- Citizens from the CIS states as well as Georgia and Ukraine please submit 2 application forms and 2 photos.
- Please do not forget to include your contact details (email, telephone number), your signature and answer the questions on the second page.
- Photo: frontal photo, no scans or copied passport photos; 45mm x 35mm; not older than 6 months and not damaged
3. Valid residence permit for Germany in original and copy (and green supplementary sheet, if applicable)
- The German residence permit should be valid at least until the return journey to Germany.
- Fiktionsbescheinigung is also accepted (please make sure that you are allowed to leave Germany with it)
4. Flight schedule
- Flight bookings OR a (non-binding) proposal for a flight (printed screenshot of planned flight connection).
5. Invitation letter from inviting party in Japan (English / Japanese)
- If it is difficult to obtain an invitation letter, please submit as much official information as possible about the exhibition/conference/workshop etc., e.g. confirmation of registration or similar.
6. Schedule of Stay (English / Japanese)
- Can also be filled in by the inviting party
7. Proof of covering travel costs
Employer is covering the travel costs | Inviting party in Japan is covering the travel costs | Applicant is covering the travel costs by themselves |
Letter of assignment by employer (in English) with the following content: - Confirmation of existing employment relationship - Purpose of the trip to Japan - Travel dates - Confirmation that all costs of the trip will be covered |
- Letter of Guarantee (English / Japanese) - Copy of extract from the commercial register (Tokibou) - If inviting party is an individual within the institution: Certificate of Employment |
- Salary statements of the last 3 months - Bank statement/savings (current, not older than one month; name of account holder and date of issue must be visible) with sufficient funds to cover all costs of the trip. |
